Donation of Fire Equipment to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine from Kent Fire and Rescue Service (United Kingdom)

The project aims to establish an effective and sustainable partnership on post-crash care between Ukraine and United Kingdom, an area often overlooked, but absolutely vital to casualty reduction.

The donation is facilitated by Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport (EASST) who worked closely with Kent Fire and Rescue Service, Ukrainian partner the Road Safety Support Foundation and the UK Embassy in Ukraine to ensure smooth delivery of the equipment.

The first activity was held in July 2012 and included the donation of the two fully equipped fire engines and fire suits along with the training to the Ukrainian fire fighters in techniques for rescuing road crash victims, provided by the Kent fire fighters.

The second phase in July 2013 saw the donation of parts that have enabled the changing of the steering mechanism from right to left hand side on one of the previously donated fire appliances. This fire engine will carry specialist RTC equipment in order to respond to road crashes in the region. More fire gloves were also provided to complete the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the firefighters.

The project is very well received by the media, producing a large amount of coverage:
